It’s Halloween! It’s music cover time!

This year to celebrate halloween, I decided to release a dark, heavy, and spooky cover song from one of my favourite bands: Ghost.

I’ve had this idea for more than a year and now it was the perfect time to release it. This is my first cover song, hopefully just one of many. I was faithful to the original song, since it was already dark enough, but I tried to recreate it while still putting my own spin on the overall feel and atmosphere. No samples from the original song were used. The track was made from scratch.

Game Dev Camp 2019

Since I embarked on this pursuit of making audio tailored to complement and enhance multimedia projects, Game Dev Camp 2018 in Lisbon was my first contact with the Portuguese game development community. Game Dev Camp is a conference catering to programmers, artists, musicians, game designers, publishers, investors, students, and anyone interested in making games or being a part of the game making process. It was a pleasure to be present in the many and varied talks held by international industry veterans as well as talks from small indie studios, during the two days of the event.
Game Dev Camp 2018 was an such a great experience that I had to come back for another year.

This time there was another great round of speakers, these speakers are or once were representing companies such as Funcom, Doppio, Blizzard, Ubisoft and others, and as such they are a great source of information, inspiration, and experience sharing. Portuguese speakers were also present, in fact one of the goals of the event managers was to have a higher ratio of Portuguese speakers than those from other countries. This deliberate choice also guaranteed that attendees took valuable experience and insight shared by speakers that are closer to our realities and the challenges we face while being a part of the game development industry in our country.

What’s also great at this event are the attendees, just a bunch of friendly people eager to meet others and share their passion for video games and their projects, which is really awesome to see. Although the Portugal game development community is still small and our studios are yet to ship the “killer app”, the one who could put Portugal in the spotlight and inspire the creation of new companies, or to make big international ones consider basing their studios here, great strides are being made, some studios are already here, working on their own projects or working for other major studios, and awareness is being raised by events such as this one and other community projects, awareness to our talented and passionate developers, creatives, and to our beautiful country.

To summarise, I’m proud to be a part of such a thriving community and while it continues to grow we will all continue to create to the best of our abilities. Already looking forward to the next Game Dev Camp. I hope to meet you there!

Orchestral Tools – Metropolis Ark Trailer Score

Recently I came across a trailer score competition hosted by metapop, where they wanted participants to create the soundtrack for a trailer from Orchestral Tools. I hadn’t heard of metapop before but I knew Orchestral Tools and their orchestral sample library with a massive sound, namely the Metropolis Ark. I took the challenge and scored the trailer for this product as if I was using their tool to do it, which unfortunately I was not because I don’t own it. I tried to give the score a big and epic feel because that’s the direction I think Orchestral Tools themselves would take.

Since I have a tendency to do more than what is asked, I created the sound effects as well. The full work can be listened below, the video had originally no sound whatsoever.

Video Game Music Academy Challenge Concluded!

Right at the start of this year (Day 1), I started to write new game music every day for 21 days for the Video Game Music Academy challenge. I’m happy to report that I was able to conclude the challenge successfully and on schedule. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. What’s great about this challenge is that we are able to step out of our confort zone and create music that we don’t generally do, also makes us do quick decisions because we don’t have the time to spare. I can say that for the most part I’m happy with the music that I made these days, although almost all of them are quite raw. I ended up liking some of the tracks that I made and probably later they’ll get the treatment that they deserve. All the tracks can be listened below trough my Soundcloud account, and I thank you for listening! Also I’m always open to feedback, so don’t be a stranger and shoot me a message trough my social accounts. Also I have more things in store for this year, this was just the beginning. Stay tuned! 😉

Pendulum Granite (Jack Type Remix)

My remix of Pendulum’s Granite is finally out. I never tought that one day I would be remixing a song from these guys. I’m a big fan of drum n’ bass but remixing this track in the same genre would not fulfill my need to completely transform the original track. So this is what I came up with. Driving bass lines inspired by progressive rock/metal genres, odd rhythms, a little bit of electronic rock, and some industrial influences turned this track into a very different experience, hope you like it!

Coming Soon: Pendulum Granite (Jack Type Remix)

One of the most iconic drum & bass acts of all time, Pendulum are back with new music in the works and they released stems for their classic hit “Granite”. As a fan of these guys I couldn’t pass the opportunity to remix this track. I’m hard at work to bring this new remix to life, and this time around I’m going to deviate a lot from the original song. The release will come soon (October 2018).
